about

(4:49) Howard Ashman, Marvin Hamlisch-Chappell & Co., Red Bullet Music and Shop Talk Ltd. (ASCAP)

From the Broadway musical "Smile", this song could have been written about me. I still have vivid memories of seeing the Walt Disney World Grand-Opening TV special while in 6th grade at military school. I was so amazed and intrigued, I saved my money for three years, until, at age 14, I flew to Disney World for a week by myself, hotel room and all. it is only recently that I have come to realize how remarkable that act was. I still collect Disneyana, and hope to sing and act in one of their animated films someday. I almost didn't include "Disneyland" on this album because I thought it might be too escapist. Then, I realized that we all need someplace to feel safe "where the child inside gets to laugh and gets to ride, until it's all okay" My friend and therapist, Rusty Moe, feels very strongly that I should dedicate this song to him This one's for you, Rusty. Thanks for helping me find that safe place.

LYRICS - DISNEYLAND
(As recorded by Bill McKinley)

Hot Sunday night
I guess the folks were busy fighting
Joe’d already left home
Eleven years old on my own
Feelling nothing but lonely

There’s nothing to do
there’s nothing out there but the traffic
Down on state ninety-three
So I’d sit through the night
By our old black and white TV

And that’s when I saw it
That’s when I heard it
Calling me

Disneyland
Magic Kingdom
Disneyland
Close my eyes real tight
Wishing hard I might
Wishing hard I may
Find my way to
Disneyland
Gotta get to Disneyland
On a western breeze
Magic carpet please
Please carry me away

Cause when the world it too real
It makes it better to feel
You’ve got another place to go
Somewhere there’s magic enough
To leave who’s ugly and tough
To grab a dream and let it grow
Somewhere it’s never too late
To leave it all at the gate
And just be there
We’re free there
Come with me there
Cause I know
We all need some

Disneyland
Magic Kingdom
Disneyland
Where the child inside
Gets to laugh and gets to ride
Until it’s all okay
I believe in Disneyland
Come with me to Disneyland
And when we get to Disneyland
Let’s stay

Cause when the world it too real
It makes it better to feel
You’ve got another place to go
Somewhere there’s magic enough
To leave who’s ugly and tough
To grab a dream and let it grow
Somewhere it’s never too late
To leave it all at the gate
And just be there
We’re free there
Come with me there
‘Cause I know
I know
We all need some

Disneyland
Magic Kingdom
Disneyland
Where the child inside
Gets to laugh and gets to ride
Until it’s all okay

I believe in Disneyland
Come with me to Disneyland
And when we get to Disneyland
Let’s stay
Let’s stay
Let’s stay
