People are usually surprised to hear that these lyrics are Guthrie's originals. I "rediscovered" this song when, while going through old LPs, I came across a childhood favorite, The Limelighters' "Through Children's Eyes”. I never really liked this song, as I had only heard it done with tambourines, a la "Up With People", with the emphasis on the pastoral aspects of the lyrics, rather than on its' inclusiveness. It is time for all disenfranchised people to reclaim this song, as well as this land.
